The Fonk appeared in Batavus's line-up as a pragmatic Dutch city bike built for everyday commuters who want reliability without complexity. Designed in Heerenveen, Netherlands, it carries the brand's 120-year tradition of low-maintenance urban transport. The Fonk 7 became the mainstream mid-range offering, with roller brakes, hub gears, and dynamo lighting all standard.

- Shimano Nexus 7 + Rollerbrakes require almost no maintenance and last years in daily commute use
- Upright geometry and wide 40 mm tires give a comfortable, confidence-inspiring ride on varied urban surfaces
- Integrated dynamo lighting and MIK rack system make it a genuinely self-contained commuter out of the box
−Недостатки
- At ~18 kg it is heavier than sportier alternatives — not ideal for mixed bike/transit commutes or carrying upstairs
- Non-suspension seatpost means rough cobblestones transmit fully to the rider
- Three-speed versions (Fonk 3) are very limiting on hilly terrain
