Origin
The KTM Ultra has been a fixture in KTM Fahrrad's hardtail range since the mid-2000s, evolving from a 26" workhorse into a modern 29" cross-country platform. Built around an aluminium 6061 frame, different trim levels (Ride, Sport, Flite, Fun, Glorious) target very different budgets while sharing a common hardtail DNA. The range sits below the carbon Myroon in the KTM hierarchy and makes up the bulk of the brand's MTB volume.

The verdict
+Strengths
- Practical 1×12 Eagle drivetrain on the Ride spec keeps maintenance simple
- Well-proven 6061 frame construction — durable for everyday trail riding
- Maxxis Rekon Race tires roll fast and grip well on packed XC surfaces
−Weaknesses
- QR axle standard (not thru-axle) on base specs lags behind current MTB norms
- At ~14.3 kg the Ride trim is on the heavier side for serious XC racing
- Entry trims use 3×9 Altus — adequate but dated against modern 1× setups
