Origin

The La Bomba is GT's dedicated dirt jump and 4X race platform, combining BMX geometry instincts with a 26-inch wheel format and a short-travel fork. Its origin dates to the growth of 4X racing and slopestyle BMX as competitive disciplines in the 2000s, where GT needed a purpose-built frame between their full MTB and BMX lines.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • 26-inch wheel and horizontal dropout design feels right at home on dirt jump and 4X courses
  • Alloy frame with hydroformed headtube and gussets handles hard landings without flexy behavior
  • GT Power Series chromoly crankset is overbuilt for the purpose -- highly durable
Weaknesses
  • Limited to 26-inch wheels, which is increasingly rare and restricts tire and rim choices
  • Not suited for general trail riding -- the geometry and gearing are highly specialized
  • Single-speed setup with 28T/13T gearing offers no adaptability for longer or hilly courses
