Ultra 2
Origin
Dualtron is the flagship performance line of Minimotors, a South Korean manufacturer founded in the mid-2000s that helped define the modern high-performance electric scooter category. Where most brands chased lightweight commuters, Minimotors built the Dualtron reputation on raw dual-motor power, over-built aluminium chassis and genuinely fast machines. The Ultra family sits at the off-road / all-terrain end of that range. The original Dualtron Ultra (60V) became a cult favourite, and in 2020 Minimotors replaced it with the Ultra 2 (also branded 'Ultra II'), moving up to a 72V architecture, a bigger battery and more powerful 11-inch motors. It has since been iterated into the Ultra 2 Upgrade, which relocates the twin motor controllers to a 'kick-tail' extension at the rear of the deck to free up space for a larger 40Ah battery — one of the biggest packs in a folding scooter of its era.
Specifications
- Weight
- kg
- Brakes
- Front + rear disc with electronic ABS/regen. Base = mechanical/cable disc (160mm); Upgrade often ships Nutt hydraulic disc
The verdict
- Enormous range and battery capacity for a folding scooter (up to ~100-140 km claimed on the 40Ah)
- Brutal dual-motor acceleration and a real ~90 km/h top speed on all-terrain tyres
- Robust, serviceable build — adjustable suspension, replaceable elastomer cartridges, over-built aluminium chassis
- Very heavy (~40-46 kg) — awkward to carry, lift or transport in a car
- No proper water resistance on the base model despite off-road looks; not a rain machine
- Expensive, and standard off-road tyres plus base mechanical (non-hydraulic) brakes on some units feel dated for the price
Generations
Ultra 2 (2020 base)
- Original 72V Ultra 2, EY3 display. Big jump over the old 60V Ultra.
- Brakes
- Disc + electronic (often mechanical/cable)
Ultra 2 Upgrade (~2022+)
- Bigger battery, added deck footrest for uphill comfort, EY4 display. Watch for cheaper 32Ah China-cell grey-imports sold under the same name.
- Brakes
- Nutt hydraulic disc + regen on many units
