Origin

The Furious launched in 2006 as Commencal's park-focused DH alternative to the Supreme race bike. While the Supreme DH chases World Cup results with complex kinematics and mixed wheel sizes, the Furious prioritises intuitive, accessible gravity riding on 27.5" wheels with straightforward suspension. It evolved through multiple versions, gaining triple-butted 6069-T alloy and Fox 40 Performance spec while keeping costs manageable.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • 200mm of rear travel and Fox 40 fork deliver genuine DH capability for bike park riding
  • Full 27.5" wheel setup gives consistent, intuitive handling vs mixed-wheel alternatives
  • Simpler kinematics than Supreme DH means easier setup and more predictable feel for park riders
Weaknesses
  • 27.5" full setup offers less high-speed rollover stability than 29" or mullet configurations
  • Fox 40 Performance (not Factory) spec limits damper tuning range vs top-of-the-line builds
  • Purely a DH/park bike — no climbing efficiency or trail versatility
