Origin

The Spectral is Canyon's ultimate all-rounder. Originally a long-legged trail bike, it grew into a capable enduro-lite machine. In 2024, Canyon slightly reduced the travel (150/140mm) to separate it from the Torque and Strive, aiming strictly for the aggressive trail bike sweet spot. Gen 3 (2021-2023): Moved to 29er wheels, increased travel, adjustable geometry flip-chip. Gen 4 (2024-present): Integrated downtube storage, K.I.S. (Keep It Stable) steering stabilizer option, refined kinematics.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Direct-sale value: carbon frame, quality Fox/RockShox suspension and 4-piston brakes at prices that undercut comparable trail bikes.
  • Composed, well-damped suspension — reviewers single out the rear shock tune for resisting blow-through while staying supple.
  • Snappy, energetic climber: pedals forward without wallowing despite 140 mm of rear travel.
  • Genuinely versatile — as fun on flowy singletrack as on tight, janky, steep terrain; modern long/slack geometry.
  • Practical 2024 updates: integrated down-tube storage, very long 230 mm dropper, easy 29er↔mullet flip-chip.
Weaknesses
  • K.I.S. steering stabiliser underwhelmed testers; some removed it after it began rattling against the top tube.
  • Down-tube storage hatch is small and the mechanism is criticised for fiddly, imprecise operation.
  • Internal headset cable routing looks clean but is widely disliked for making home maintenance harder.
  • Stock tyres are a weak point — light EXO/EXO+ casings can feel under-gunned for the bike's aggressive intent.
  • Long reach and slack 64° head angle make it less efficient/agile for XC-style or less aggressive riders.
