Origin

Canyon wanted to build one of the lightest production hardtails in the world for their World Cup XC athletes (like Mathieu van der Poel). They utilized Toray M40X 'unicorn hair' carbon fiber to achieve an incredibly low 835g frame weight without sacrificing sprinting stiffness. Gen 1 (2021-present): Launch of the CFR (Canyon Factory Racing) tier, utilizing Toray M40X carbon fiber to drop frame weight to 835g.

Race-focused 100mm XC geometry and integrated cockpit deliver precise, no-excuses handling for smooth race courses.
Canyon VCLS 2.0 split flex seatpost adds genuine rear vibration damping that a normal post can't on a hardtail.

−Weaknesses

Unforgivingly rigid ride — fatigue sets in fast on long rides and traction suffers over rough terrain due to minimal compliance.
One-piece CP08 integrated carbon cockpit is non-adjustable: changing bar width or stem length requires a full bar replacement, complicating fit.
Traditional/steep 69° head angle feels nervous and dated for any descending beyond smooth XC race tracks.
Press-fit (PF92 / Race Face Pressfit Cinch) bottom bracket is fiddly and creak-prone vs threaded.
Limited 34T chainring / tyre clearance and direct-to-consumer model (no dealer fit, self-assembly, sizing risk).
