Gain
e-road
01
Kilmė
Orbea launched the original Gain in 2018 — one of the earliest attempts to make an e-road bike indistinguishable from a conventional race bike. The 2023 generation went further: a lighter Mahle X20 hub motor (replacing earlier Fazua systems) with a total system weight under 1.4 kg, built on the Orca OMR carbon platform. The result is a bike that climbs as a conventional road bike on flat terrain and only reveals its motor assistance on hills.

Verdiktas
+Stiprybės
- Mahle X20 at 1,399 g total system weight is the lightest class of hub e-road systems
- Orca OMR platform gives genuine race-calibre frame stiffness and geometry
- Visually indistinguishable from a high-end road bike — no stigma for group rides
−Trūkumai
- 350 Wh battery is small by e-bike standards — adequate for commutes, limiting for long sportives
- Battery is not user-removable — range is fixed without the entire drivetrain change
- Hub motor engagement can feel slightly notchy compared to mid-drive at very low speeds
