9
Origin
The Zero 9 belongs to the 'Zero' e-scooter family popularised by the Singapore retailer FalconPEV, which curated and branded a line of commuter and performance scooters ranging from the compact Zero 8 up to the big dual-motor Zero 10X and 11X. The scooters themselves are built by a Chinese OEM (widely reported as Unicool / Titan Group), the same factory behind early Turbowheel-branded models, which is why the Zero, Turbowheel and several other names share near-identical chassis. Arriving around 2019, the Zero 9 slotted in as the 'sensible middle child': more range and power than the Zero 8, far more portable and affordable than the 10-series. It earned a reputation among reviewers and commuters for punching above its price on build quality, lighting and reliability, and became one of the most recommended sub-500W-class commuters of its era before newer designs superseded it.
Specifications
- Weight
- kg
- Brakes
- Front hydraulic/mechanical disc + rear drum brake, plus electronic/regenerative braking (EBS)
The verdict
- Excellent build quality and reliability for the price — a genuine 'best-kept-secret' commuter
- More real range than most rivals in its class (LG 624Wh battery on the 48V trim)
- Comfortable ride from 8.5-inch pneumatic tyres plus front and rear suspension, and standout lighting
- Handlebar/folding mechanism tends to loosen over time and needs periodic re-tightening
- ~8-hour charge time is slow, and 18-19 kg is a bit heavy for stair-carrying
- Discontinued/superseded — no manufacturer support and weak/ambiguous water resistance (no clear IP rating on many units)
Generations
36V era (entry)
- Lighter, cheaper, slower — a true light commuter.
48V era (mainstream)
- The definitive Zero 9 most reviews are based on — best balance of range and speed.
52V era (late/top)
- Late dealer trim with a higher-voltage pack for a touch more range/punch.
