Origin
The 901 is the most accessible entry point into Whyte's enduro hardtail philosophy — the same 64.5° head angle and 440mm chainstay geometry shared across the 905 and 909 X, but with SRAM SX Eagle and the RockShox 35 Gold fork to keep the price under £2,000. Five frame sizes (XS through XL) make it unusually inclusive for a 27.5" trail bike.

The verdict
+Strengths
- Full enduro hardtail geometry (64.5°) at under £2,000 is exceptional value
- Five frame sizes is more inclusive than most trail hardtail competitors
- TRP Slate Evo brakes punch above their price tier for stopping power
−Weaknesses
- SRAM SX Eagle is the budget tier of Eagle — heavier cassette and less precise shifting than GX/X01
- RockShox 35 Gold is a capable fork but lacks the fine compression tuning of Pike-spec
- 27.5" x 2.8" tire rolling resistance is a tradeoff for the traction benefits
