Origin
Specialized realized that kids bikes were often just shrunken adult bikes with terrible, heavy coil forks that didn't work for light riders. The recent Riprock redesign ditched the fake suspension for lighter rigid forks on base models, and used actual kid-tuned air forks (Manitou J-Unit) on Expert models. Gen 2 (2022-present): Redesign moved away from heavy 'plus' tires and cheap coil forks towards lighter rigid forks or quality air forks, modernizing geometry.

The verdict
+Strengths
- Excellent price-to-weight-to-spec ratio for a real kids trail bike — genuinely light alloy frame for the money.
- Hydraulic disc brakes with adjustable reach on every model, including the base — easy for small hands to modulate.
- Modern trail geometry (68° head angle, internal routing) plus clutch trigger drivetrain that actually behaves on singletrack.
- Kid-tuned narrow Q-factor cranks and 130 mm Bridge saddle correct ergonomics that most kids bikes ignore.
- Dropper-post compatible and includes a front fender — uncommon thoughtfulness at this tier.
−Weaknesses
- Long seatposts raise the minimum saddle height, creating a narrow 'great fit' window and risking a too-tall start for the smallest riders.
- Stock platform pedals are cheap and spin poorly — usually first thing parents replace.
- Base models have no suspension fork at all; buyers expecting any squish must step up to the pricier 24 Expert.
- Base 20/24 lack a quick-release seatpost clamp, so trail-side height changes need a tool.
- No 26" size — once a kid outgrows the 24", the Riprock line ends and they must move to an adult bike.
