Origin

Radon is the in-house bike brand of H&S Bike-Discount, the Bonn (Germany) mail-order retailer founded by Christopher Stahl and Ralf Heisig in 1989 while they were students. The RADON project began in the early-to-mid 1990s (the brand is generally dated to 1997) as a way to offer high-spec bikes at direct-sales prices by cutting out the dealer margin. Over three decades Bike-Discount grew from a suburban shop into one of Europe's 'big four' online bike sellers, and Radon became its recognisable own-label — best known for aggressive component-for-money mountain and road bikes. The Trekking line, sold under the long-running SOLUTION name, applies that same value philosophy to everyday and touring bikes: a well-built alloy frame, name-brand Shimano groupsets and hydraulic brakes, fully equipped with rack, mudguards and lights, at a price German-market rivals struggle to match. Radon sells exclusively through Bike-Discount, with no traditional dealer network.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Outstanding value — full Shimano drivetrain, hydraulic discs and complete touring equipment well below typical dealer prices (Solution 7.0 was a magazine test winner).
  • Well-made, laterally stiff aluminium frame with lively, athletic handling for a fully-equipped trekker.
  • Practical everyday spec out of the box: integrated lights, mudguards, kickstand and a stable free-floating pannier rack.
Weaknesses
  • Rear rack lacks torsional stiffness — MYBIKE found the fender stays touch the tire under loads over roughly 10 kg, so it is not built for heavy cargo.
  • Direct-sales only (Bike-Discount, Germany): no local dealer, self-assembly needed, and warranty/service in the Baltics means shipping back — a real consideration for buyers here.
  • Entry forks are heavy coil units and the bike ships without pedals; some trims are on the heavier side (~16 kg) for the class.
