City
Origin
Radon is the house bicycle brand of H&S Bike-Discount, founded in Bonn in 1989 by two students, Ralf Heisig and Christopher Stahl, on a 20 square-metre shop floor. The Radon project itself started in 1993 with a simple pitch: engineer-led frames and high-end component packages sold direct, without the dealer markup. Bike-Discount went online in 1999 as one of Germany's early mail-order bike pioneers, and by 2013 had opened a 24,000 square-metre megastore in Bonn-Hardtberg. Radon built its reputation on race-bred road bikes and mountain bikes (sponsoring pro MTB teams from 2010), but the same direct-to-consumer, spec-for-money philosophy carries into its everyday urban and trekking bikes — where a hub-gear commuter or a suspension-forked tourer arrives with a component list that usually costs a class more elsewhere.

The verdict
- Direct-sale value — component spec (hydraulic discs, hub gears, integrated lighting) is above segment price.
- Low-maintenance city setup available (Shimano Alfine 11 hub, belt-friendly, enclosed) that shrugs off Baltic winters and road salt.
- Commute-ready out of the box: rack, dynamo/integrated lights, mudguards and puncture-resistant Schwalbe tyres.
- 'City' is not a defined model — buyers must pin down the exact Radon (Urban Supreme, Sunset, Solution) to know the real build.
- Online-only sale means no local dealer fit/service in the Baltics — assembly and warranty run through Germany.
- Hub-gear/belt urban builds carry a price premium and are heavier to service DIY than a plain derailleur bike.
