Origin

Pivot launched the Mach 6 in 2014 as a dedicated 27.5" enduro machine, when 27.5" wheels were at their EWS peak. The design borrowed the longer DW-link configuration from the Phoenix downhill bike to maximise rearward wheel-path — the same philosophy behind the larger Firebird. As the wheel-size debate evolved, the Mach 6 gained mullet support (29" front / 27.5" rear), giving it a second life as a snappier, more nimble complement to the full-29er Firebird.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • 27.5" wheels give snappier, more playful handling than 29" enduro bikes
  • Phoenix DH-derived links maximise traction on square-edge hits
  • Mullet capability adds versatility without a second frame
Weaknesses
  • 27.5" rolls less efficiently than 29" on flat or smooth terrain
  • Niche choice as market has moved heavily toward 29" enduro bikes
  • Premium carbon pricing
