Origin

The Eccentric has been the heart of NS Bikes since 2014 — a cromoly steel hardtail that refuses to follow aluminium convention. The Tange Eccentric tube set was co-developed with Tange specifically for NS, creating a custom-drawn steel lighter and stiffer in key stress zones than standard 4130.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Tange Eccentric steel absorbs trail chatter naturally, giving a lively yet forgiving ride feel
  • Slack 65 deg head angle punches well above hardtail expectations on technical descents
  • Dropper post stock plus Boost spacing means no immediate upgrade needed
Weaknesses
  • Heavier than aluminium hardtails — steel density unavoidable even with butted tubes
  • Single recommended fork travel (140mm) limits customisation versus headset-tunable rivals
  • Cromoly frames require diligent drying after wet rides to prevent internal rust
