Origin

The KTM Mini range covered first pedal bikes for children aged roughly 4-8 years, complementing the larger Kid and Chicago ranges. Built on aluminium frames to keep weight appropriate for young riders, Mini models typically offered coaster brakes or simple hand-brake setups. The range has since evolved into the Wild Cross and Wild Buddy naming in the modern KTM kids lineup.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Aluminium frame is appropriately light for a first pedal bike
  • Simple drivetrains (1-speed / coaster) reduce maintenance for parents
  • KTM brand quality and safety testing applies even at the smallest sizes
Weaknesses
  • Legacy naming — current production uses Wild branding; Mini-branded bikes are older stock
  • 16" and 20" bikes have a limited riding window before the child outgrows them
  • Coaster brakes require a specific pedalling habit — some children find the reverse-pedal-to-brake counterintuitive
