Trail Neo
Origin
The Trail Neo is Cannondale's pedal-assist take on its long-running Trail hardtail, sharing the same frame DNA but built around a low, centrally mounted Bosch drive unit and downtube battery. Cannondale positioned it as an SUV-style crossover: equally at home commuting with lights and racks or hitting blue-grade singletrack. For 2023 the platform was reworked to accept Bosch's Smart System and larger batteries, pushing claimed range toward 175 km on the top Trail Neo 1.

The verdict
- Big-capacity Bosch battery (625 Wh, dual-battery ready) gives genuine long-range capability — up to 150 km claimed
- Strong Bosch Performance Line CX motor (85 Nm) on Trail Neo 2 makes climbing effortless
- Genuine commuter/trail crossover: integrated running light, rack/fender/kickstand mounts come standard
- Low, central battery+motor placement plus slack head angle gives stable, confident handling
- Proportional Response sizing (27.5" on S, 29" on bigger frames) tailors fit and ride for every rider
- Hardtail with only 100 mm front travel — limited for technical or rough descents where full-suspension e-MTBs excel
- Older 135 mm quick-release rear axle instead of a modern Boost thru-axle, reducing stiffness and limiting wheel upgrades
- No dropper post on the Trail Neo 2 — a notable omission on a trail-oriented bike at this price
- Heavy (around 20-24 kg) and manufacturer does not publish an exact weight, making comparison hard
- Lower trims drop to Performance Line (65 Nm) and SmartForm C2 frame — naming is confusing and the entry models feel notably less capable
- High launch price (Trail Neo 1 ~£4,300 / €4,999) and limited EU-mainly availability
