Powerfly (Hardtail)
Origin
The Powerfly hardtail line — sometimes labeled Powerfly Sport in the secondary market — is Trek's entry-level full-power e-MTB. It pairs an Alpha Platinum aluminum frame with a 120 mm suspension fork, 29-inch wheels (27.5 on size S), and the Bosch Performance Line CX motor with 85 Nm of torque. The Powerfly+ 4 and 4EQ ship with a 600 Wh PowerTube battery; the Powerfly+ 6 and flagship 8 step up to 800 Wh. The EQ trims add fenders, rack, and integrated lights so the bike doubles as a heavy-duty commuter or trail-tourer. In Europe the platform sells at €3,299 to €4,999 — the most accessible way into a Bosch CX system from a top-tier brand. For 2025 the line migrated to the new Bosch CX Gen 5 motor and updated geometry.

The verdict
- Cheapest credible path into a genuine Bosch Performance Line CX (85 Nm) e-MTB from a top-tier brand — Bosch reliability + Trek dealer network
- Smooth, quiet power delivery; Gen 5 CX motor noticeably finer and lower-noise than predecessor
- Powerful 203 mm Tektro hydraulic discs deliver dependable stopping for a heavy e-bike
- Removable Integrated Battery (RIB) allows tool-free battery swap and charging off the bike
- Gen 5 adds Range Extender support (up to 1050 Wh) and modern 66.5° trail geometry
- Heavy at ~24 kg — manhandling and pedaling unassisted is hard work
- Entry trims run a basic SR Suntour XCM coil fork and a 1×10 Deore drivetrain — budget components on a premium platform
- Hardtail rear can cause arm/shoulder fatigue on long or rough descents (no rear suspension)
- Gen 4 US 500 Wh battery is not upgradeable / no range extender, and real range (~56 km) is modest for the weight
- No dropper post on the cheapest trim, limiting confident technical descending
