Origin

The Courier is Stevens' answer to the question every Hamburg resident faces: what do you actually ride to work every day for years on end? The aluminium 6061 TB frame supports a Shimano Nexus 8-speed internal hub — reliable, sealed against weather, and largely maintenance-free. Hub dynamo lighting from B+M ensures the rider is always visible without ever charging batteries. The Courier Luxe adds a Gates Carbon belt drive, eliminating the chain entirely for the most low-maintenance possible urban drivetrain. Stevens has built City bikes in Hamburg since its founding, and the Courier reflects decades of daily-rider feedback.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Shimano Nexus + hub dynamo B+M lighting is genuinely maintenance-free across seasons
  • Hydraulic disc brakes stop reliably in wet Hamburg winters
  • Courier Luxe belt drive eliminates chain maintenance entirely
Weaknesses
  • 15.1 kg is relatively heavy — impractical for riders needing to carry the bike up stairs regularly
  • Aluminium fork offers no suspension comfort on rough city roads
  • Internal hub limits gear range compared to wide-range derailleur for hilly terrain
