Origin

The Pure Air is the UK's best-selling electric scooter and the foundational product of Pure Electric, a British brand founded in 2018 and headquartered in Bristol. Now in its fifth generation (Pure Air 5, 2025), the Air is sold through Halfords, Currys, Argos, and Pure's own retail stores — making it one of the most accessible e-scooters on the UK high street. Pure positions the Air firmly as an entry-level urban commuter at the £349 price point: it lacks dual motors, suspension, and high-speed performance, but compensates with IP65 water resistance (legitimately useful in British weather), tubeless 10-inch tires, a foldable design weighing 17 kg, and a UK-supported warranty and service network. The Air competes mainly with Xiaomi Mi 4 Lite and Segway Ninebot E25.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Outstanding IP65 water/dust resistance across the whole frame — genuinely engineered for year-round British/European rain, not a marketing tick-box.
  • Excellent value: a non-disposable, build-quality scooter at an entry-level price (£349–£399), with full UK high-street retail and warranty support (Halfords, Currys, Argos, Pure stores).
  • 10-inch tubeless pneumatic, puncture-protected tires give a smooth ride and low flat risk versus smaller-wheeled rivals.
  • Fast ~4.5 h charge and app-based anti-theft lock add everyday convenience.
  • High 120 kg max load and sturdy, bicycle-like frame feel reassuringly solid.
Weaknesses
  • Underpowered 250 W motor struggles on hills steeper than ~10% and accelerates slowly from standstill.
  • No suspension — bumps are absorbed only by the tires, so rough surfaces transmit shock.
  • Heavier than direct rivals (16.5 kg, ~4 kg more than the Xiaomi 1S), making it less pleasant to carry up stairs.
  • Limited real-world range (~30 km, smaller 280 Wh battery) constrains longer commutes.
  • Tires reported to skid in wet conditions, and the folding mechanism is not the quickest among competitors.

Who it’s for

First-time scooter buyer, UK or EU urban commuter under 90 kg with a 5–10 km flat commute who values high-street retail support, IP65 water resistance, and the lowest credible price for a non-disposable scooter.
