Origin

Pinarello launched the X-Series in February 2023 with the tagline 'au revoir Paris' -- a direct send-off to the Paris endurance model it replaced. The platform also retired the Gan K. Built on lessons from the Dogma F and the Paris/Gan, the X-Series brought full TiCR internal cable routing (previously only on top-end race bikes), expanded tyre clearance to 32 mm (vs the Paris's 30 mm), and the new Flexy Stays rear compliance system -- curved rear triangle stays that use the inherent damping of T600/T900 carbon to smooth rough roads without adding a suspension element or sacrificing BB stiffness. Five build tiers (X1 through X9) democratise the platform from EUR 3,680 entry level to Dura-Ace Di2 and SRAM RED AXS territory.

Specifications

Frame
T600 UD carbon (X1/X3), T900 UD carbon (X5/X7/X9); asymmetric monocoque with FlatBack truncated aerofoil tubing throughout; proprietary aero seatpost with 3D-printed titanium integrated clamp; tapered head tube (1-1/8" to 1-1/2") and tapered seat tube; TiCR (Total Internal Cable Routing) saves ~5 W aero drag vs external routing.
Drivetrain
X1: Shimano 105 R7020 11-speed mechanical; X3: Shimano 105 Di2 R7170 12-speed or SRAM Rival eTap AXS; X5: Shimano Ultegra Di2; X7: Shimano Dura-Ace Di2; X9: SRAM RED eTap AXS. All 2x compact.
Brakes
Hydraulic disc, flat-mount across all builds; build-dependent calipers (Shimano 105/Ultegra/Dura-Ace or SRAM).
Wheels
X1: Shimano WH-RS171; X3: Fulcrum Racing 800 DB; higher builds: MOST carbon or brand-spec carbon wheelsets (build-dependent).

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Flexy Stays genuinely reduce road fatigue on long endurance rides without adding mechanical complexity
  • Full TiCR internal cable routing -- previously only on Dogma F -- makes the X-Series feel premium far above its price tier
  • 32 mm tyre clearance improves versatility for mixed-surface sportives compared to the Paris it replaced
Weaknesses
  • T600 carbon (X1/X3) is heavier than the T900 used on higher builds -- entry builds feel noticeably heavier
  • Five tiers create specification confusion: geometry is identical across all, but weight and stiffness jump meaningfully between X3 and X5
  • Flexy Stays compliance is subtle -- riders used to mechanical compliance systems may not notice the difference on firm tarmac
