Origin
Cycles Peugeot is the oldest French bicycle brand, founded in 1882 in the Montbeliard region when Armand Peugeot hand-built a penny-farthing called 'Le Grand Bi'. The company grew out of the Peugeot family's 19th-century steelworks, and its lion emblem, drawn in 1858 by engraver Justin Blazer, still rides on every frame. Peugeot went on to become the most successful factory team in Tour de France history with a record ten victories, and its yellow-and-white checkerboard racing bikes are icons of 20th-century cycling. Today the bicycle business operates under Cycleurope, a subsidiary of Sweden's Grimaldi Industri, which uses the heritage lion to sell modern, mainstream European bikes. The eCity range is the everyday urban face of that legacy: not a race machine, but an approachable step-through commuter that carries a famous name into the daily grind of the city.
