Origin

Norco built the Threshold to compete in cyclocross racing, a discipline that demands a bike equally capable on mud, grass, sand, and brief stretches of pavement. Over successive generations the Threshold's geometry and tyre clearance evolved to cover gravel racing as well, making it a genuine dual-purpose machine.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Competitive sub-9 kg weight on carbon builds for CX racing
  • SRAM 1x drivetrain simplicity excels in muddy cyclocross conditions
  • Thru-axle front and rear gives stiffness and confidence in technical CX corners
Weaknesses
  • Pure CX geometry is less comfortable than dedicated endurance gravel bikes on long rides
  • 35 mm tyre clearance is limiting compared to more modern gravel platforms
  • Line became less prominent as Norco shifted focus to trail MTB and the Search XR gravel platform
