Origin

Norco developed the Charger to give young riders access to real mountain bike specifications rather than toy-quality components that make learning harder and less safe. The Charger's use of hydraulic disc brakes with short-reach levers is particularly notable — most kids' bikes at its price use mechanical or V-brakes that demand more hand strength.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Hydraulic disc brakes with short-reach levers — genuinely safe and effective for young riders
  • Air suspension fork tunable to child weight, rare at kids' bike price points
  • Maxxis tyres and Shimano drivetrain give a real trail bike experience rather than toy-grade feel
Weaknesses
