KQi2 Pro
Origin
NIU Technologies is a Beijing-based smart-mobility company founded in 2014 that made its name building app-connected electric seated scooters (mopeds), of which it has sold well over two million worldwide. That heritage in high-volume, reliability-focused manufacturing is the backbone of the KQi kick-scooter line, which NIU introduced to expand from seated scooters into last-mile standing scooters. The KQi2 series debuted around 2021 (shown alongside NIU's wider EV range at EICMA in Milan in November 2021) and was positioned squarely at the value-commuter segment. Rather than chasing horsepower, NIU applied its production experience to nail the fundamentals - a wobble-free frame, taller and wider handlebars, big 10-inch tires and a low-maintenance drum brake - and priced it aggressively (around $599 / €499 at launch). The KQi2 Pro quickly became a reviewer favorite as one of the most reliable budget scooters you could buy, and later sat below the more powerful KQi3 series in NIU's range.
Specifications

- Brakes
- Front drum brake (hand lever) + rear electronic regenerative braking. ~14 ft stop from 15 mph
The verdict
- Excellent build quality and reliability for the price - reviewers repeatedly rank it the most reliable budget scooter
- Stable, planted ride from big 10-inch pneumatic tires and wide handlebars; punches above its weight class
- Low-maintenance sealed drum brake plus regen, IP54 rating and a 2-year warranty - genuinely commuter-durable
- No suspension - ride relies entirely on the pneumatic tires, so rough surfaces are felt
- Handlebars don't fold, so it's bulky to carry/store despite the moderate weight
- Modest power and speed (especially the 250W EU version, capped at 20-25 km/h) - not for hills or riders wanting pace
Generations
KQi2 Pro (2021+)
- The commuter-value model. Single hub motor, drum + regen, 10" tires, no suspension. This node.
KQi3 series (next tier up)
- For reference only - the KQi3 Pro/Max are the more powerful, longer-range step up; different model, do not confuse specs.
