Origin
Nishiki entered the e-bike segment around 2019 as the brand's owner (Dick's Sporting Goods) responded to the rapid growth of entry-level electric bikes in North America. The Altron ST (Step-Through) is the brand's core electric offering: a modest 350W rear-hub motor and 270 Wh battery designed for flat urban commuting rather than hills or long distances. The step-through frame prioritises accessibility for riders of all ages and flexibility levels.

The verdict
+Strengths
- Step-through frame and throttle mode make it accessible to older or less mobile riders
- Class II throttle capability distinguishes it from pure pedal-assist-only bikes at similar price points
- Shimano TZ31 rear derailleur is simple and widely serviceable
−Weaknesses
- 270 Wh battery limits range to 25-35 miles — real-world range on hills with cargo will be at the low end
- No suspension fork means rough city surfaces are fully transmitted to the rider
- 6-speed drivetrain is narrow for a loaded commuter; hilly terrain will expose gear range limitations
