Origin

The Matts Women's represents Merida's commitment to purpose-built women's city and recreational bikes since the mid-2000s. Where the Juliet leans towards a more urban aesthetic, the Matts Women's sits closer to a light-trail hardtail with city practicality — more capable on unpaved paths and parks while remaining fully useful for daily commuting.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Women-specific geometry reduces the need for aftermarket stem and bar swaps
  • Suspension fork with lockout provides trail comfort and road efficiency in one bike
  • Built-in fender and rack mounts make commuter setup easy and tidy
Weaknesses
  • Entry builds use mechanical disc brakes — serviceable but requires more attention than hydraulic
  • Entry-level 3×7 drivetrain is heavier and harder to maintain than modern 1× systems
  • Less distinctive than the Juliet for pure urban use; lighter trail capability than a dedicated hardtail
