Origin

The Hercules Futura is the brand's core e-trekking platform, refined since 2014 and now in its most complete form under ZEG ownership. Built around Bosch mid-drive technology, the Futura covers the spectrum from city commuting (Compact, 20-inch wheels) to all-day touring (HD with 750 Wh battery, Pro with Rohloff hub and Gates belt). All bikes are sold exclusively through ZEG dealer network in Germany and neighbouring markets.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Bosch CX/Cruise motor range is class-leading for power delivery and ecosystem (app, navigation, eShift)
  • Wide battery selection lets buyers match capacity to actual commute length without overpaying
  • Rohloff + Gates belt option on Pro I-F14 is the ultimate low-maintenance drivetrain for year-round riders
Weaknesses
  • Heavy at ~25 kg — fine for flat urban use but noticeable when lifting up stairs
  • ZEG-exclusive distribution limits availability outside Germany/Austria/Switzerland
  • Higher-trim models (Pro, HD) carry premium pricing above many comparable trekking e-bikes
