GazelleMakki Load
e-cargo
01
Origin
The Makki Load arrived in 2021 as Gazelle's answer to the Dutch family cargo bike tradition — the "bakfiets" (box bike) culture that has replaced cars for school runs across the Netherlands. Built on a low-step aluminium frame with a large front box, it pairs Bosch's Performance Line motor with a Gates belt and Enviolo CVT hub so that carrying 50+ kg of children and groceries never involves touching a chain. Optional 800 Wh battery gives 40+ km range even under heavy load.

The verdict
+Strengths
- 75 Nm Bosch motor handles 50+ kg cargo loads without obvious strain — the assist feels natural even fully loaded
- Gates CDX belt + Enviolo CVT means zero greasy maintenance even when used daily as a family utility vehicle
- 800 Wh battery option provides real-world range security for cargo loads that drain batteries 2–3× faster than a solo rider
−Weaknesses
- At 54.5 kg without battery, it is very heavy — parking, locking, and lifting into a garage requires planning
- Single frame size limits fit; taller or shorter riders may find geometry compromised
- Mixed-wheel size means front and rear tubes and tires are non-interchangeable — carry both sizes as spares
