Origin

E-Twow (Electric Two Wheels) grew out of work by Romanian engineer Sorin Sirbu, who built early ultralight electric scooter prototypes in China in the early 2010s. The commercial brand crystallised around 2015 as a partnership between the Jinhua E-Twow Technology factory in Jiangsu, China (which makes ~90% of the components — motors, batteries, plastics and firmware) and two sales companies based in Craiova, Romania, with a European office in Germany. Long before the Xiaomi/Ninebot wave made e-scooters mainstream, E-Twow's obsession was weight: shave every gram so the scooter could be folded and carried onto a tram or train. The Booster became the flagship of that idea and one of the first scooters to use a kinetic energy recovery (KERS) regenerative brake, a technology then associated with racing cars. In North America the same platform is sold under the 'Uscooters' name.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Exceptionally light and portable — folds small and carries easily onto transit
  • Strong build quality and a long-refined platform (multiple hardware generations)
  • Airless tires + simple mechanics mean very low maintenance
Weaknesses
  • Weak brakes and long stopping distances (regen front + kick rear, no disc)
  • Sub-par coil suspension and hard airless tires give a firm ride; poor wet grip
  • No IP water resistance and small deck/narrow bars uncomfortable for larger riders
