Origin

Cube is a German brand founded in 1993 by Marcus Puerner in Waldershof, Bavaria, that grew from a small workshop inside his family's furniture factory into one of Europe's largest bike makers, known for aggressive spec-for-price and vertically integrated in-house manufacturing. The Cargo line, introduced around 2019-2020, was Cube's entry into the booming European e-cargo segment — a two-wheel front-loader (long-john) aimed squarely at families and businesses looking to replace a second car. Rather than chase the boutique Dutch-brand aesthetic, Cube applied its usual playbook: a Bosch Cargo Line drive, mainstream Shimano/Magura components, an aluminium frame and a big EPP-foam box, all at a price that undercut most rivals. The 2025-2026 redesign pushed that further, jumping to a 100 Nm motor and 800 Wh battery while actually lowering the entry price.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Strong, torquey Bosch Cargo Line motor hauls a child plus heavy groceries up hills without strain
  • Big 200 l EPP box, ~220 kg total capacity and puncture-resistant Schwalbe tires make it a genuine car substitute
  • Excellent value — mainstream Shimano/Magura spec at a lower price than most e-cargo rivals, and the newer gen is cheaper still
Weaknesses
  • Heavy (~45-51 kg) and ~75 cm wide — hard to lift up curbs/stairs and won't fit narrow gates or hallways
  • 500 Wh battery on 2020-2024 models is modest for a loaded cargo bike; plan charging or budget for the dual/800 Wh option
  • Long, low frame can suffer undercarriage strikes over tall obstacles and needs dedicated storage space
