Origin

The CLX (Carbon Lugged eXtra) is Colnago's long-running enthusiast carbon platform, combining Italian heritage aesthetics — the signature painted lug details — with a more accessible price point than the C- and V-Series flagships. The CLX 2.0 debuted around 2010 and the line evolved through several iterations with Shimano Ultegra builds, consistently targeting club racers and gran fondo riders who want Colnago cachet without the flagship price.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Lively, responsive ride character with Colnago's characteristic directness
  • Hybrid construction delivers sub-kg frame weight at a fraction of flagship cost
  • Threadfit 82.5 BB avoids the creak problems endemic to press-fit carbon frames
Weaknesses
  • Stock wheels are well below the frame's potential and the bike's price point
  • Rim-brake only — no disc option limits appeal as the market shifts
  • Geometry suits confident riders; less forgiving than modern endurance platforms
