Neuron
Origin
The Neuron is Canyon's do-it-all trail bike, sold under the German direct-to-consumer brand founded by Roman Arnold that ships bikes in a box straight to the rider. The nameplate arrived in the mid-2010s as Canyon's versatile short-travel trail platform, then was fundamentally rethought for the 2019 model year: rear travel grew to 130mm (from 110mm), the fork to 140mm, and the geometry was slackened and stretched to keep pace with modern trail bikes. The full-carbon Neuron CF launched in late 2018. Canyon kept the formula largely stable through the 2020 alloy redesign, then delivered the biggest overhaul for 2023/2024: a 66-degree head angle, 76-degree seat tube, ~22mm more reach on a medium, shorter seat tubes for long droppers, sealed cable routing, and reinforced pivots. Throughout, the Neuron has held its slot in Canyon's range between the short-travel Spectral 125 and the burlier Spectral 29 - the bike you reach for when the day mixes a long climb, a big loop, and a rewarding descent.

The verdict
- Excellent value-for-money spec thanks to direct-to-consumer pricing (the Neuron 6 was called the best budget trail bike a BikeRadar tester had ridden)
- Well-balanced, stable modern geometry that climbs efficiently and stays composed on descents
- Light and versatile - a genuine all-day / all-rounder trail bike, quality Fox suspension on mid and upper trims
- Stock tyres (Nobby Nic / Wicked Will) lack grip in the wet and on technical terrain - a common first upgrade
- Rear suspension can feel hyperactive/harsh on steep, fast, chunky descents - it's a trail bike, not an enduro rig
- Direct-to-consumer only: no shop fitting, self-assembly required, and no local dealer for warranty hand-holding
