Origin

Cannondale's front-loader (bakfiets-style) family cargo e-bike, launched 2022 as the cabin-in-front counterpart to the longtail Cargowagen. Built on a SmartForm C2 alloy low-step frame with Bosch Cargo Line power, it uses cable steering and 20" wheels to keep the kid cabin low and the centre of gravity stable for hauling two children plus cargo (200 kg total). All variants stay within EU EPAC 25 km/h, so they are road-legal as bicycles across the Baltics without registration.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Cable-steering front-loader design gives low cabin and low centre of gravity — stable hauling with kids/cargo
  • Weatherproof double-kid cabin with 5-point harnesses and headrests — kids ride in rain without a cover
  • Bosch Cargo Line motor with dual-battery option — strong torque and extendable range for heavy loads
  • 200 kg total capacity (100 kg cabin + 27 kg rear rack) with trailer hitch — genuine car-replacement utility
  • EU EPAC 25 km/h on all variants — no registration/insurance hassle in EE/LV/LT
  • Enviolo Heavy Duty CVT (Neo 1) — stepless shifting under load, low maintenance
  • Cannondale dealer-network service and lifetime frame warranty
Weaknesses
  • Very expensive — Neo 1 ~£6,000 / ~€7,000 RRP; niche purchase
  • Heavy front-loader chassis — awkward to manoeuvre and store, hard without ground-floor parking
  • 20" wheels trade ride smoothness for low COG — busier over rough surfaces
  • Very limited Baltic market and dealer/service presence for cargo bikes
  • Cable steering takes adjustment vs direct steering and needs periodic cable service
