Trail (Hardtail)

Origin

The Cannondale Trail is the brand's entry into accessible trail riding — an aluminium hardtail that packages Cannondale engineering into an affordable, durable platform. Its SmartForm alloy frame features strategic flex zones in the rear triangle that soften the classic hardtail harshness, and StraightShot routing keeps shift and dropper cables internally routed even at this price point. The Trail comes in multiple grades (Trail 1 through 8) to cover first-time mountain bikers up to enthusiasts who want a no-nonsense hardtail.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Accessible price point with genuine Cannondale engineering
  • StraightShot internal routing cleaner than most at this price
  • Wheel-size matching per frame size improves fit for all heights
Weaknesses
  • Entry builds use coil forks and mechanical disc — performance ceiling is lower
  • Alloy frame heavier than carbon alternatives
  • Rear triangle flex not a substitute for a full-suspension bike on gnarly terrain
