Speedmachine
Origin
The Speedmachine name dates back to BMC's 2004–2010 aluminium aero/TT bike, but the current Speedmachine 01 is an all-new carbon machine launched in September 2023 (sales from November 2023) that replaces the Timemachine as BMC's flagship time-trial and triathlon platform. It was born from a five-year collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, applying Formula 1 CFD and aerodynamic know-how to the design. BMC's brief was revolution rather than iteration: a bike that is more aerodynamic and lighter than the Timemachine while keeping its legendary stiffness. The result is a 20-part frameset with F1-inspired airflow management and reworked steering geometry aimed at predictable handling at race speed.

The verdict
- Significantly improved handling, stability and rigidity versus the Timemachine, praised by pro riders for descents and climbing response.
- F1-grade aerodynamics (SharkFin, wide fork legs, truncated-aerofoil tubes) tuned across yaw angles up to ±20°.
- Versatile integrated hydration: 400 ml UCI TT bottle or 1.2 L triathlon FuelTank, plus rear storage for tools/spares.
- Travel-friendly — cockpit removes with only four bolts; lighter, 20-part frameset.
- Very expensive — complete builds run roughly USD 8,400–17,000.
- BMC publishes no head-to-head data to back its 'fastest TT/tri bike in the world' claim.
- Dedicated race geometry and integrated cockpit make it niche and less practical for general riding.
- Highly integrated design (ICS cockpit, internal routing) can complicate fit changes and maintenance.
