Origin

The BMC Roadmachine AMP debuted in 2023 as the electrified version of BMC's acclaimed Roadmachine endurance platform, built to extend range and flatten climbs without sacrificing the feel of a 'real' road bike. BMC hid a Mahle X20 rear-hub motor and a 350 Wh iX350 downtube battery inside a Roadmachine 01 carbon frame, so the bike looks almost indistinguishable from its non-assisted sibling. BikeRadar called it 'simply one of the best e-road bikes available,' noting it rides like a quality endurance bike roughly 90% of the time. In late 2024 BMC expanded the family with the Roadmachine 01 AMP X, an all-road variant switching to the TQ HPR50 mid-drive, wider 38 mm tyre clearance and a 1x drivetrain.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Rides like a high-quality non-assisted endurance bike ~90% of the time — natural, well-integrated Mahle X20 assistance
  • Very light for an e-road bike (~12 kg) thanks to the compact rear-hub motor and 350 Wh battery
  • Stable, balanced, confidence-inspiring endurance handling with precise SRAM/Shimano shifting and strong braking
  • Impressive real-world range (132–157 km tested) with discreet, almost stealth integration
  • BMC TCC compliance and D-shaped seatpost smooth out road buzz on the carbon frame
Weaknesses
  • Stock Vittoria Rubino Pro tyres are poor in winter/wet conditions per BikeRadar
  • Firm ride on rough surfaces — the stiff frame and narrow 28 mm tyres limit comfort vs gravel/all-road e-bikes
  • 350 Wh battery is non-removable, so you must charge the whole bike and rely on a costly range extender for more range
  • Premium pricing (roughly €7,000–10,000) puts it out of reach as a budget e-road option
  • Narrow tyre clearance (33 mm on the AMP) limits versatility compared with the later AMP X
